LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A former Fort Myers teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student will spend two and a half years in jail.
36-year-old Suzanne Owen was sentenced this week in Lee County. In addition to her prison sentence, she will spend ten years on probation.
She'll also have to register as a lifetime sex offender, go through a treatment program, wear a GPS tracker during probation, have a curfew, and have no contact with anyone under 18 years old.
In April 2018, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a report that Owen, a teacher at Evangelical Christian School, had an inappropriate relationship with one of her students.
After further investigation it was found that Owen and the victim communicated through e-mails and text messages, and Owen admitted to engaging in sexual activity with the student.
