Fort Myers boat ramp to close Monday

Posted

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Construction on a new downtown hotel in Fort Myers is forcing the closure of a popular boat ramp.

This weekend will be the last time boaters will be able to use the ramp off Edwards Drive in front of the Harborside Event Center.  The ramp will be closed beginning Monday, May 21.

The reason is for the construction of a nearby 243-room hotel by Marriott featuring a parking garage, amphitheater and renovated events center.

Construction crews will begin installing fencing this week, with construction beginning in June.

The project is expected to be completed in early 2020.

The nearest alternative boat ramp is located on Frierson Street, next to the Oasis condos.
