Fort Myers Miracle player Ryan Costello found dead in New Zealand

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Twins organization is mourning the loss of a player found dead in New Zealand.

The StarTribune reports that 23-year-old Ryan Costello was found dead in an Auckland, New Zealand hotel room. He had recently joined the Auckland Tuatara.

Costello appeared in 68 games at first base for the Fort Myers Miracle in 2019, and 27 games in 2018.

The Minnesota Twins released a statement Monday. "The Minnesota Twins are deeply saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Ryan Costello yesterday in New Zealand. On behalf of the entire organization, the Twins send their most sincere condolences to Ryan’s family, friends, coaches and teammates."

Costello initially sign with the Seattle Mariners in June 2017 after playing at Central Connecticut State. In July 2018, he was traded to the Minnesota Twins and assigned to the MIracle. In July 2019 he was called up to the AA Pensacola Blue Wahoos to play the rest of the season.
