Fort Myers Police arrest mom involved in traffic homicide in February

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Fort Myers Police have announced the arrest in a crash that killed a three year old in February.

Police say, Leslie Joe Zeagler, 30, was traveling on Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard near Rockfill Road when she blacked out.

Her three year old Serenity was ejected from the vehicle.

After an investigation, investigators determined there was no child restraint device in the vehicle.

The child was not restrained.

Zeagler turned herself in and was arrested and charged with, Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child, Driving under the influence; the death of any human being or unborn child commits DUI manslaughter and Driving while license suspended, revoked, or canceled with knowledge.

FMPD says Serenity was the 12th person to die on Lee County roads this year out of 406 in the state. So far this year, 807 motorists have been killed in traffic crashes in Florida.
