PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — People all over a Southwest Florida community are grieving the loss of a heroic teenage boy. There are big developments tonight in the case of a Port Charlotte burglary - that cost a young teen his life.

Tonight, we're seeing the face of Khyler for the first time thanks to photos from his grieving friends. Khyler died saving his five-year-old sister in a home burglary on Thursday.

Neighbors and friends of the family are remembering the life and impact of Kyhler. Those close to the family say that Khyler brought a sense of joy and light to all those around him.

"It's a shame that a kid has to do this, that's what bothers me the most. Ours are the ones that are suffering the most," neighbor Howards Saks said.

Saks also added, even though this neighborhood is relatively safe, he will be making some changes because he has young children in his home.

If there is anything good that has come out of this tragedy, it is that the community has come together in support of the family. The family's GoFundMe page started earlier this morning to help raise money for Khyler's burial. The page has already raised over $20,000 as of Monday morning. A fundraiser is also being held for the family on Saturday, October 5th at Harbor Heights Park.

Khyler's family has asked for privacy as they grieve, and we are respecting their wishes.
