FORT MYERS, Fla. — Police continue investigating a shooting that happened at Mahogany's Beauty Salon Saturday, in Fort Myers.
Upon responding to a call of shots fired along Fowler Street, Fort Myer Police say the gunman confronted the responding officer and began firing at him.
The Fort Myer Police Officer fired back, striking the shooter.
Upon examining the area, officers discovered the shooter's wife, who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
We spoke with workers at Mahogany's Hair Salon, who say the gunman's wife, Mahogany Mouzon, is the owner of the beauty salon.
According to one worker, Mouzon's husband went inside the salon and shot her more than a dozen times.
Friend and coworker, Jama Jeangilles, says Mouzon was miraculously alert and smiling Sunday after being shot seventeen times by her husband — although, as friends and family gathered to clean the salon Sunday, Jeangilles says they found 19 bullet casings.
Mouzon's family says their spirits were lifted to hear she would make it through the frightening ordeal.
The husband was also transported to Lee Memorial Hospital for his injuries. The officer involved was not injured but has been placed on paid administrative leave, as required by the Fort Myers Police Department policy.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was contacted and is investigating the officer-involved shooting, as is also per police policy.
Family of Mahogany Mouzon said she would be undergoing surgery Sunday, and added that the hair salon would remain open for business while Mouzon recovers.
