FORT MYERS, Fla. — In the age of COVID-19, working from home can make the act of working out even harder.

Many might be familiar with the feeling of being hunched over the monitor for hours while getting stuck on another long video conference call.

If this is you, a virtual and in-home fitness company out of Naples has a few tips that might help.

William DeRose with GYMGUYZ says this new sedentary work life can be the culprit of the so-called, Quarantine 15.

“A lot of people have gained a little bit of weight and it's because the lack of activity so if you are sitting at home it is very important to get up, walk around the house, and walk around the block if you have a break."

For those stuck to a desk, he suggests stretching to help posture and easy lower body exercises.

In this morning's feature, DeRose shows three different exercises people can do to stay active while seated on a work Zoom call.

"It’s important really for everyday movement. With the quads, that’s going to help with your squat when you’re sitting. You’re sitting down quite a bit so you do have to start engaging the lower half of your body.”

Also, switching to a cleaner diet is also key to a healthy work life from home.

GYMGUYZ says their in-home personal training is great for offering accountability.

DeRose adds that people can try workout apps and virtual group fitness to help as well.

“We do see a lot of people who are really hesitant to go back to a gym at this time so the next best thing would be to bring the gym to them.”
