LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. -- Deputies in Lee County are investigating a shooting and a stolen vehicle incident in Lehigh Acres early Wednesday morning.

4 In Your Corner arrived shortly after 4:30 a.m. to the gas station along Lee Boulevard and Gunnery Road. Our crew on scene reported crime scene tape up around the gas station and multiple deputies in the area.

Another scene was reported nearby along John Avenue and Circle Drive.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to what they thought was an abduction at the 7-Eleven located at 4325 Lee Blvd.  When a deputy attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, the driver sped away and the deputy followed.

As the deputy followed the vehicle, the driver of the suspect car lost control and drove through a fence and into a marsh.  The two people inside ran from the vehicle, but they were quickly taken into custody.

Both subjects had sustained non-life threatening gunshots wounds, which they indicated happened in the area of the 7-Eleven. They told deputies they did not know who would want to harm them. Both were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. Deputies determined the Hyundai had been reported stolen out of Lee County.

The investigation continues. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Lee County Sheriff's Office at (239) 477-1340 or Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
