CAPE CORAL, FLa. — The Cape Coral Police Department has confirmed that two men are now deceased after a domestic stand-off.
Deputies responded to a 911 check up request at a home in the 100 block of SE 13th Avenue. When deputies arrived, a woman was seen fleeing the home and saying that a man inside has a gun. According to the Cape Coral Police Department, after her statements were made, gun shots were fired inside the home.
The area of SE 1st Street and SE 13th Ave. was blocked off for several hours. A unit from the medical examiner's office was also seen. SWAT teams, forensics units and other police surrounded the Cape Coral neighborhood.
"It's like a scene from the movies," said resident Bud Murnberger as he saw the police presence grow. He was one of many neighbors who questioned what had happened.
A 50 year-old victim was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The other victim, 32 year-old Adrian Hernandez-Martinez, was found in the home deceased from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. According to deputies, their findings show that Hernandez-Martinez held the woman and male victim inside the home for several hours before the woman was able to call the police and escape the home secretly. When deputies arrived, Hernandez-Martinez killed the victim and himself.
This investigation is still ongoing.
