The Moon Fish Wildfire continues to grow and is approximately 27,037 acres with no containment, according to Big Cypress National Preserve.
Visitors and travelers should expect to smell the smoke along US Highway 41 near the Miccosukee Community area and the greater Miami area, depending on the winds and fuels in which the fire is burning.
Fire officials were alerted of the wildfire on May 7th, just south of Loop Road in the southeast corner of Big Cypress National Preserve, close to the Everglades National Park boundary.
Big Cypress Preserve says the fire was human-caused, and the individual was cited.
Big Cypress Preserve is working closely with the Florida Highway Patrol to monitor conditions.
Troopers closed US 41 on May 8th due to smoky conditions. They have reopened the east and west entrances to local traffic until further notice. Officials say this road is closed to visitors.
Officials are asking drivers to use caution while in the wildfire area.
Residents are encouraged to remove debris, reduce fuel loads around homes up to 100 ft, and prepare to evacuate.
