THE EVERGLADES, Fla. -- Hunters have killed 500 Burmese Pythons in the Everglades as part of an elimination program.

Burmese Pythons are invasive to the area. The South Florida Water Management District hired hunters to remove them.

Researchers said the snakes were destroying populations of native mammals and posed a threat to restoration efforts.
