IMMOKALEE, Fla. -- Deputies have arrested a woman on petit theft after reportedly stealing a bottle full of nickels and dimes from a group of men that she says hired her to be a prostitute.
36-year-old Tanya Estrada is facing charges of burglary and petit theft.
According to a Collier County Sheriff's Office report, a resident of an apartment of S. Second Street in Immokalee told deputies that Estrada walked into the open doorway of his apartment. When he yelled at her to leave, she reportedly grabbed a water bottle containing approximately $20-$30 worth of coins, then fled the apartment and gave them money to an unidentified man.
Deputies, who were familiar with Estrada from previous arrests, approached Estrada about the accusations. She claimed that she is a prostitute and that the man and two others had propositioned her for sex and offered the coins as payment, which she declined because she does not accept coins.
During this conversation, deputies noted that Estrada's dress had no pockets, but there was a nickel hidden in her dress. Then during an interview with investigators, she produced four dimes from her bra.
She was arrested and taken to Immokalee Jail Center for processing.
