FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Thursday marks the first day on the job for a newly created administrative position at Fort Myers Police Department.
Earlier this month, the department hired Donald Oswald to become the department's first Inspector General.
FMPD says the position of Inspector General "consists of leadership and administrative police work that involves the management and supervision of the Bureau of Professional Standards and Public Information for the Police Department."
Oswald becomes a sworn executive member of the police department's command staff under the immediate direction of Chief Derrick Diggs.
He will provide guidance to Chief Diggs and all department personnel on a number of subjects.
Oswald last worked as Commander of Criminal Investigations at the FAU Police Department.
