LABELLE, Fla. — Southwest Florida high school students are taking their talents out of state. The trip comes with a steep price tag, but these performers say they took a cue from their teacher.

Kyla Miller, 15, told Fox 4 that being on a stage full-time is her goal. “My ultimate dream is to be on Broadway.”

It's a dream Kyla and nine of her talented classmates will get to try out next week.

Ten theater students from LaBelle High School will fly to New York City to train with professional Norway actors and actresses next week.

This is a first for their school, a dream for performers of any age, and an opportunity for the their teacher, Maureen Dociette, says could be once in a lifetime.

Through the program, Broadway Classroom organizes the training and the experience. But most of the funding was made possible by the students.

Dociette says students, with the help of parents, held fundraisers. They included car washes, performances to raise money for the $7,000 trip.

Fifteen-year-old Jenna McClain says Ms. Dociette’s determination to get them to New York helped motivate the students to make it happen.
