FORT MYERS, Fla. — With the coronavirus outbreak, Southwest Florida's busiest season is taking a hit.
Many games, events, and festivals are canceling. However, one local event is finding safer ways to continue with plans.
Lee County Domestic Animal Services is still preparing for their 5th annual Flip This Kennel competition and adoption event on March 28.
More than a dozen groups will decorate dog and cat kennels using the theme of a popular board game. On the day of the event, an adoptable pet will be featured in each one.
LCDAS says people can visit the flipped kennels, but a majority of the voting takes place online.
If people want to stay inside due to the outbreak, they can still vote for each contestant on their Facebook page during the day of the event.
Starting today, LCDAS is also reducing their adoption prices for the next two weeks. Dog adoptions are now around $10 and cat adoption fees are being waived.
