NAPLES, Fla. — The Lee County School District announced it is cutting ties with produce provider, Oakes Farms.
Just over eleven thousand have signed a petition on Change.org asking people to cut ties with Oakes Farms.
The petition centers on a Facebook post from Alfie Oakes, owner of Oakes Farms. It contains controversial statements about race and recent calls for social equality.
The School District says it will be working with other suppliers to ensure that fresh fruits and vegetables are provided for students.
This is a developing story. Fox 4 is working to bring more information on this as we receive it.
The School District of Lee County has severed ties with Oakes Farms. The District will soon be working with other suppliers to ensure that fresh fruits and vegetables continue to be provided to our students.
