LEE COUNTY, Fla. — The Lee County School District announced a new program to address the teacher shortage in our area and help sustain schools.
The "grow your own" teacher scholarship program will be two-fold.
The first tier will provide scholarships to rising high school seniors to major in education at FGCU and FSW. Those scholarships will be funded by Suncoast Credit Union.
A second program would provide money to college juniors and seniors who want to switch majors to education.
After graduation, they would be required to work for at least three years at a local school.
