FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — Sheriff Carmine Marceno says 82-year-old Ilonka Knes was identified by medical records.

Investigators confirmed Knes' remains were discovered in the mangroves of Fort Myers Beach on Tuesday.

Investigators say her cause of death was drowning.

She was reported missing after the storm and was one of two active missing persons cases in the county.

Deputies continue to search for James Hurst who went missing on Oct. 6, 2022, after he was reported missing on his sailboat in Fort Myers Beach after the storm.

Sheriff Marceno says there are now 74 deaths related to Hurricane Ian in Lee County.
