Lee County Sheriff's Office Law enforcement Torch Run

Posted

LEE COUNTY, Fla.-- The Lee County Sheriff's Office is preparing to run and bike several miles to help the Special Olympics.

Sergeant Anita Iriarte says the Law Enforcement Torch Run started in the 80's in Kansas and then it went viral. Law enforcement agencies from all over the country now host their own torch run events, which raise money and awareness for the Special Olympics.

The LCSO torch run will be on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 8 in the morning. The event kicks off at the LCSO headquarters in Fort Myers.

The event is only for law enforcement, but the public is encouraged to cheer on and show their support. The route will be about 6 miles long.

Portions of Six Mile Cypress Parkway, South Tamiami Trail and Daniels Parkway will be closed down to one lane for the participants.
