FORT MYERS, Fla. — Health care providers across the country pleading are for donations.
Nurses and doctors are in critical need of masks, gloves and other medical supplies.
Fox 4 spoke to Lee Health about ways you can help make a difference.
“We are looking for masks, gloves, gowns, face shields and other protective equipment that will keep our nurses and doctors safe, ” said Chris Simoneau, Lee Health’s Chief Foundation and Development Officer.
They are urging the community to come together in support of healthcare workers on the front lines.
Lee Health says this is a precautionary measure.
“What we are doing is trying to be proactive by collecting as much supplies upfront in case the supply chain dries up,” said Simoneau.
As researchers work to find ways to limit the spread of COVID-19, Lee health says we all have a part to play.
“This is really going to be about neighbors taking care of neighbors,” said Chris Simoneau.
Hospitals have formed partnerships with several local businesses.
“Restaurants and bars, construction companies, and we are also talking to our local clinics, plastic surgery centers, and dentists, ” said Simoneau.
Even at home, you can help by donating household items and using online templates to sew masks for doctors and nurses.
“We want to bulk up our supplies to be prepared to take care of this community for the long term, ” said Simoneau.
