FORT MYERS, Fla. — A big local fundraiser for the blind and visually impaired is adding a new twist to their tenth annual event.

Lighthouse of SWFL's dinner in the dark event is now 'Dining in the Dark at a Distance'.

The fundraiser offers a sensory experience of having little to no vision.

Due to the coronavirus, guests will now pick up curbside a local meal, beverage, and dessert, along with a blindfold.

Once they're home, a virtual guide will help them enjoy their meal while blindfolded.

Lighthouse of SWFL says this year, the funds are needed more than ever.

“That just really illustrates and drives home the point that fundraisers like this and our teams ability to move it to a remote model is really critical to continue to raise much needed funds for us to operate under the circumstances and maintain her services," said Dotty St. Amand, Lighthouse of SWFL CEO.

Proceeds go toward helping year-round programs for local people with low vision and blindness.

A weekend-long online auction starts Friday and the event is Saturday.
