Local healthcare worker allegedly attacked by patient

On Wednesday, Aprill 22nd, The Lee County Sheriff's Office received a call from a concerned neighbor who saw a woman bleeding heavily and screaming.

Upon arriving to the scene in Bonita Springs, deputes found the woman who had several injuries to her face and body.

The victim, whose identity is protected under Marsey's Law, told deputies that her patient, Michael Welzmuller, ran towards her with a knife in hand.

According to a report from the Lee County Sheriff's Office, Welzmuller stabbed her in the mouth which lead to cuts in her cheek and tongue.

The victim said she believed Welzmuller was going to kill her and she screamed for her to stop.

A neighbor heard the screams and called 911.

The victim told deputies that she has been the home health nurse for Michael Welzmuller for two months without any previous incident.

Welzmuller, found with dried blood on his clothing, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon.

He's currently in custody at the Lee County Jail.

His bond is set for $200,000.
