**UPDATE** -- Lois Riess pleaded guilty as charged Tuesday in her 1st degree murder case for the murder of a woman in Fort Myers Beach last year.

The State withdrew the possibility of the death penalty in exchange for the life plea.

According to the State Attorney's Office, the victim’s family was supportive of the decision as they sought for her to be incarcerated for life.

The confession came during a pre-trial conference Tuesday in Fort Myers.

She still faces charges that she killed her husband in Minnesota before fleeing to Florida in late March 2018.

Riess ended up in Fort Myers Beach, where she met Pamela Hutchinson and bonded with her at a local bar. Prosecuters say that on April 9th, Riess murdered Hutchinson in her rental condo and stole her identity and vehicle before fleeing the state.

That led to a huge manhunt for the so-called "Killer Grandma".

Riess was later apprehended in Texas and charged with murder.

“This defendant will never get out of prison. This life sentence also alleviates any appellate issues that could arise and guarantees she will never be free again. It also allows the family of the victim to not have to go through the details of this crime at a trial,” said State Attorney Amira Fox.
