LEE COUNTY, Fla. ---The Florida Gulf Coast University Athletics Department has a new men's basketball coach after former coach Joe Dooley announced his departure.

FGCU Athletic Department named long-time assistant coach, Michael Fly, as its new men's basketball coach Thursday afternoon.

"What I want this to become and what I think this can become is Southwest Florida's team." said Fly. "By that I mean I don't want this to be something that people look at and remember that one time in 2013 man that was lob city."

Fly has been with FGCU as an assistant coach since 2011 and is the only remaining member from the 2013 Sweet Sixteen squad to still be with the team.

"If I do my job like I plan to do it, I think this will become Southwest Florida's team, that's what we want and that's what we need, I want the feeling of 2013 to be every time we open those doors," said Fly.

Fly's new position will make him the fourth head coach within the program. He is responsible for recruiting four of the five student athletes.

Joe Dooley left FGCU after five seasons to take over as head coach at East Carolina.
