LEE COUNTY, Fla. — The man accused of hitting and killing eight-year-old Layla Aiken in March is out of jail. Logan Hetherington, 19, left the Lee County Jail around 2 p.m. Friday after posting his $133,000 bond. Hetherington was arrested Thursday, almost two months after the fatal crash in Cape Coral.

Cape Coral Police also released a redacted report of the investigation leading to Hetherington's arrest. Investigators believe he was behind the wheel of his 2012 Dodge pickup truck when it veered off the street at the corner of Northeast 3rd Avenue and Northeast 19th Terrace, striking Layla while she sat at her bus stop.

Upon his release from jail, Hetherington was peppered with questions from the media.

"Do you have anything to say to the Aiken family?" asked Fox 4's Karl Fortier.

Hetherington met that - and every other question - with silence.

The report reveals that investigators spent countless hours processing the crash scene, as well as the evidence found on his truck, which investigators determined was consistent with Layla's deadly injuries.

Police also say that video surveillance captured Hetherington getting into his pickup that morning, shortly before the hit-and-run crash.

The report also states that when investigators asked Hetherington why he did not come forward and cooperate with police sooner, he replied that "his attorney told him not to speak with police because they would twist his words."

Hetherington's next court date is scheduled June 24.
