CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A man has been arrested after fleeing the scene of a crash on foot early Friday morning.

The Cape Coral Police Department says the hit and run crash happened on Southwest 7th Court. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male that was possibly armed after police discovered a loaded magazine in the abandoned car.

Officers located a man, later identified as Raul Chavarria, a convicted felon on state probation, with no shirt or shoes covered in grass. Police were also able to identify the grip of a pistol in his pocket. He was detained and his probation officer was contacted.

Police say Chavarria was charged with carrying a concealed firearm without a permit, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and violation of probation. The charges were added to his existing charges for fleeing and eluding, resisting an officer with violence, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Police say he was taken to the Lee County Jail.
