FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — The Lee County Sheriffs Office responded to a call at the Lani Kai about possible theft.
Deputies met with Edward Doody III, 38, who told Sheriff's a female snatched $200 cash from his hand.
Deputies watched video surveillance of the incident.
Surveillance video revealed Doody had thrown the money down on the bar in the direction of the female.
The Sheriff's office said Doody appeared to be intoxicated and stated he was going to call to have a different deputy arrest the female.
The deputy explained to Doody that there is no emergency, and if he misuses 911 to request a different deputy, he would be placed under arrest for Misuse of 911.
Lani Kai staff expressed that they wanted Doody off the property, so the deputy proceeded to escort Doody out of the building.
While doing so, Doody proceeded to call 911 and speak with a 911 operator. The deputy then ordered Doody to put his hands behind his back and advised him he was under arrest for Misuse of 911.
Doody ignored the deputy's commands and continued to try to request another deputy to respond.
The deputy gave more orders to turn around and put his hands behind his back, and Doody did not comply.
After a brief struggle, Doody was placed in handcuffs and transported to the Lee County Jail without incident.
Edward Doody III was charged with Misuse of 911 and Resisting an Officer without violence.
