CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A man has been arrested following a barricaded situation that took place on Christmas Eve.

Around 9:30 p.m., officers responded to the 900 block of Gleason Parkway after a caller said a man, Frank Simon, had pointed a rifle at him and possibly fired a shot into the ceiling.

Police say the caller fled the home and met with responding officers, telling them there was another person inside the home with Simon and that he was wearing a ballistic vest and helmet and armed.

At 12:30 a.m., Cape Coral Police sent out an alert notifying residents there would be an increased police presence in the 900 block of Gleason Parkway as a result of this situation.

Police say Simon refused all demands to exit peacefully, not responding to phone calls or loudspeaker commands, so a SWAT Team, Crisis Negotiation Team and Major Crimes detectives arrived on scene.

Police say a SWAT team broke out the front windows of the home and took down the garage door and was able to make contact with Simon, taking him into custody safely without anyone coming to harm.

Frank Simon was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
