CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A man fled at high speed after an officer attempted to stop him from traffic violations, committing several more in his attempt to getaway.

Cape Coral Police clocked an SUV going 65mph in a 55mp zone on SW Pine Island Road.

The officer who was running the radar observed the SUV run a stop sign.

The officer turned on his emergency lights to stop the SUV, and the SUV sped up and ran a red light at Nicholas Parkway.

The officer then additionally engaged his siren and observed as the SUV passed a CCFD fire truck with its lights on responding to a call, failing to yield to it. The SUV then once again ran the next red light at Hancock Bridge Parkway.

The officer turned off all lights and sirens and terminated the traffic stop attempt, putting the vehicle information out over the radio.

A short time later, another officer stopped the SUV near Del Prado Boulevard and Pine Island Road.

The traffic officer responded and identified the man, Robert Schornik, 44, as the same man who he had seen in the SUV.

The investigation resulted in Schornik’s arrest for fleeing and eluding a police officer, a felony.

Schornik also received citations for all the traffic infractions the officer witnessed in both pre- and post-traffic stop attempts.
