NAPLES, Fla. -- A scary night for a local family after an encounter with a man who claimed to be law enforcement.
38-year-old Hugo Carabajal was taken into custody after deputies say he led a father and son to believe he was an insurance investigator. But the Collier County Sheriff's Office says he's not.
According to a report, on Friday evening, Carabajal tried to call deputies claiming a family in the Timberwood apartment complex was following him, even confronting the family and making them place their hands on their car's dashboard and demanding answers. It was later confirmed the father was just picking his son up from daycare and returning home.
Deputies were called to the scene and began investigating. Carabajal was later arrested while pretending to be an officer during a different incident.
Deputies say Carabajal was driving an SUV that resembled an unmarked patrol vehicle, with an internal light bar, an external push bar, and a spotlight.
An AR-15 and a handgun were found in his vehicle.
He's in the Naples Jail Center on a $5,000 bond.
