PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Deputies say a woman was arrested after fatally stabbing her boyfriend in a domestic situation Sunday night.
It happened in the 2200 block of Lake View Boulevard around 7:30 p.m.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, 33-year-old Ashley Britto has been taken into custody for the stabbing and charged with 2nd Degree Murder.
Deputies arrived to find Britto with the victim, holding him close to her. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was declared dead. Doctors observed a single stab wound to the chest, but an official cause of death has not been determined.
Britto and the victim were boyfriend and girlfriend, and the sheriff's office says they had an extensive history of verbal domestic disturbances. That includes five calls involving law enforcement in March of this year, and two calls in June, but none since then until Sunday's stabbing.
The victim's name has not been released yet.
