FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Fort Myers Police Department responded to a shooting at an apartment on Winkler Avenue Friday night.
“I heard a shocking noise and that shocked me…a really loud noise, ” said George Sampaio.
When investigators entered the apartment, they found the male victim unresponsive with a gunshot wound.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office and the Fort Myers Police Department secured the scene to investigate.
Authorities say no other victims were inside the apartment.
A neighbor tells Fox 4 he believes the shooting may be retaliation, as there was a loud argument that took place just days before.
This isn’t the first time an incident like this has happened.
“This is the second shooting that’s happened here.”
A neighbor describes the victim as short with tattoos and possibly in his twenties.
“We’re a community we are a family we take care of each other, we look out for each other's kids and that’s why I’m surprised this happened. ”
Luis Escobar has lived in the community for nearly two years and says after the shooting he’s now second-guessing his safety.
“Now I feel I may be in danger, ” said Luis Escobar.
Investigators believe this appears to be an isolated incident with a specific target.
