COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- A Naples man has been found guilty of attacking a woman in a car.

Michael Royalty was found guilty of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Battery (Domestic Violence), and Resisting an Officer without Violence in a two-day trial in Collier County, according to the State Attorney's Office.

The charges stem from an incident in a store parking lot. Royalty was in the car with a woman and suddenly punched her.

When a deputy arrived, Royalty refused to get out or put down a screwdriver he was holding.

Authorities say the deputy tried to take the screwdriver from his hand but Royalty held on to it so tight it broke in the struggle and he still did not let go. The deputy struck the defendant with his baton as the defendant punched the deputy multiple times in the arm and chest.

Royalty finally dropped the weapon and was removed from the car and restrained until backup arrived.

Sentencing is scheduled for February 14th .
