Man says he almost fell victim to water scam

Elmer Park says a man in an unmarked car arrived at his North Naples home April 25th and tried to sell him a water filtration system, a system he says he didn't need.

"He came in and checked the water and said oh, you have all these chemicals in it, it's very bad, and it's not really fit to drink," said Park.

When Park told the man he already had a filter in his sink, he tried to sell him one that could be installed outside of his home.

"I said no, I don't want it, so he got a little upset about it and left."

Park had a bad feeling about the guy before he stormed off because of the man's lack of knowledge about water systems.

"He wanted to know if I had city water or well water.  I thought if he was from the water company he would know what kind of water I have."

Elmer says the man drove off in a gold Volvo with Florida plates, shortly after sheriff's deputies arrived.

The Collier County Water Division says no one from their department will ever ask to go in your home and try to sell you a product.

All their employees wear county issued badges when working in neighborhoods.
