FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — The Lee County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit and Florida Fish and Wildlife rescued a manatee in distress on Fort Myers Beach Saturday morning.

Deputies say biologists determined the manatee had an internal injury, causing it to stay on the water's surface.

LCSO and FWC were able to gently get the manatee to a boat, where they hoisted the 1,200 pound, 10-foot female out of the water.

Deputies say the manatee is being relocated to ZooTampa at Lowry Park for rehabilitation.
