CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – Charlotte County Utilities responded to two wastewater overflows from manholes in Deep Creek and Port Charlotte Thursday night because the infrastructure was saturated by recent heavy rainstorms.
The mixture of wastewater and rainwater which overflowed at 257 Hallcrest Terrace in Port Charlotte was approximately 30,000 gallons, some of which flowed into Lake Niagra nearby.
The mixture of wastewater and rainwater which overflowed at 26027 Deep Creek Blvd. in Punta Gorda was approximately 15,000 gallons.
The Utilities Department dispatched staff and tanker trucks to stop the overflows and pump excess wastewater to Charlotte County’s Eastport Facility for treatment and reuse. Friday, the affected areas were sanitized with hydrated lime.
