MARCO ISLAND, Fla. — Today, Marco Island Police Leadership announced Officer John Derrig was placed on administrative leave with pay pending an investigation.
The Captain could not comment on the matter until the case has been closed.
The Marco Island Police have been dealing with several incidents prior to this announcement.
In June 2019 a woman claimed the Marco Island Police used excessive force during her arrest. And in August 2019, Marco Island Police hired an investigator over missing files.
The Department says it is actively investigating this matter and will release more detailed information as soon a legally possible.
