CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- The School District of Lee County had a surprise for a special teacher Wednesday morning.
Mariner High School Art Teacher Samantha Hower was announced as the District’s 2019 Teacher of the Year.
The district says Hower is improving student success through art by opening her Advanced Placement classes to all students. For the last two years, her program has had the highest AP 2D Studio Art scores in the District.
Hower is also responsible for converting the STEM Academy at Mariner to the STEAM Academy by adding an art curriculum to the science, technology, engineering and math already being taught.
Hower will now be nominated for Florida Teacher of the Year. The Florida Department of Education will announce the winner in the spring.
