Military dad surprises kids at Little League awards ceremony

Posted

CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- As spring turns to summer in Cape Coral, it signals the end of another season for the players of Hancock Little League. They end the season with their ceremonial awards event at Kurt Donaldson Community Park.

For two of the players there was a special surprise. 6-year-old Nathan and 7-year-old Jayden's father has been deployed overseas for eight months. He's an air traffic controller with the Air Force.

Jayden says his dad taught him to play, and even though he hasn't been around, it isn't slowing them down. Nathan plays tee ball and Jayden's team won the championship this year.

And, their father surprised them when he returned at the awards ceremony.

"Feels great…not seeing these guys is the worst. So coming home and seeing them is amazing."

Tech Sergeant Jackson says he looks forward to spending time home with his family, and being able to relax after his long deployment.
