The Humane Society in Naples, Florida went to Tallahassee, Florida Tuesday to rescue 37 dogs and nine puppies from Hurricane Michael. Half of those animals were dropped off at the Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County.

Johnathan Forester along with four others used two transit vans to drive to Tallahassee at 2pm Tuesday afternoon and didn't return to Naples until midnight.

The Tallahassee shelter wasn't strong enough to stand against hurricane Michael. This caused everyone including the dogs to evacuate the building.

Dixie, a twelve year old dog is the only one being held in the Naples shelter. She is being treated for medical and behavioral issues.

The Humane Society is currently looking for families to adopt all 46 animals.

The Naples Humane Society is asking for financial assistance. They can be reached at 239-643-1555 or hsnaples.org
