WASHINGTON, DC -- Round Three of the Scripps National Spelling Bee began Wednesday, and with more spellers than ever before, the competition is intense.
Only 62 were knocked out in Tuesday’s rounds. That means 452 spellers advanced to Wednesday's competition.
That includes 13-year-old Bharath Ram, who attends Oakridge Middle School in Naples. He breezed through Round 2 Tuesday by spelling the word ‘perissad’.
The definition of perissad is an element of odd atomic number.
Then Wednesday morning he correctly spelled 'zoomorphic' to advance in Round 3.

If his spelling score is high enough, he could qualify for the top 50 spellers to advance to the Final rounds on Thursday.
We will keep an eye on Bharath Ram and let you know how he does during the competition.
Part 1 of the Finals start at 10 a.m. Thursday on ESPN 2. Part 2 of the Finals air on ESPN beginning at 8:30 p.m.
