Naples student arrested for threat of violence toward middle school

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- Deputies have made an arrest over an online threat made toward Pine Ridge Middle School in Naples this week.

According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, a 15-year-old student at Gulf Coast High School is charged with written threats to kill or do bodily injury or conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism, which is a second-degree felony under Florida Statute.

Detectives said the student confessed to making the threat, but denied having any plans or intentions of harming anyone. He told detectives he was mad at his parents and just wanted to scare people.

The sheriff's office says school safety remains a top concern. If you see something of concern please don’t spread it, report it.

Additional deputies were stationed at Pine Ridge Middle on Tuesday in response to the threat.
