MONROE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Naples girl has died in the Florida Keys after getting hit by a boat propeller.
Florida Fish and Wildlife says 13 year-old Harlie Smith died Friday at Lower Keys Medical Center after the propeller of a 31-foot boat severely cut her leg near Cudjoe Key.
Investigators say three other Southwest Florida residents on the boat at the time were not injured, but the circumstances leading up to her death remain unclear.
The incident is still under investigation.
