PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Charlotte County deputies are investigating a rash of burglaries, Sunday, in the Parkside area.

According to deputies, the string of burglaries happened Saturday night, or Sunday morning in the Parkside area. More than 15 cars were targeted, and all were unlocked overnight.

Fox 4 spoke with neighbors, who called the crime unexpected. "It's a quiet area. We're all working class people here," said neighbor Joann Noren. "Youth need some structured activities. I don't know if there's that much for children to do around here. That's part of the problem, I think."

Thieves spanned the area framing Gibralter Drive, Midway Boulevard, Catherine Avenue, and Hariet Street. The CCSO wants to remind residents to always lock their cars, sheds, and doors every night to prevent these crimes of opportunity. "I don't know about anybody else, but I try to protect what I have," Noren said. "If you have an issue, it's no one's fault but your own."

If you have any information regarding the burglaries, or saw anything suspicious, deputies are asking you to contact Detective Fox with the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office at (941) 639-2101. You can always anonymously leave a tip with Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1(800) 780- TIPS.
