New FDOT Road Ranger breaks barriers to keep you safe

Posted

FORT MYERS, Fla-- When you break down on the side of the highway, there's a good chance the first one to stop and help you is an FDOT Road Ranger. The free service funded through FDOT has been helping motorists throughout Florida since 2000. All you have to do is dial *347.

For the past 17 years, District 1 which serves citizens in Manatee County all the way south to Collier County has only had men work as road rangers. However, in July the department hired it's first female to help you when you need it.

"I honestly didn't know I was going to be the first one and the only one," said Brandy Nichols.

Nichols said her previous experience working at a mechanic shop helps her tremendously.

“With the females I help on the side of the road a lot of them don’t know how to change a tire, but you’d be surprised with how many men don’t know how to change a tire,” said Nichols.
