FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. -- The developers of a planned resort to be built on Fort Myers Beach announced Friday that the property will be branded as a Margaritaville resort.
The Fort Myers Beach Council voted to approve the project last month.
Developer TPI was granted approval to rezone part of Estero Boulevard near Crescent Street for a hotel project straddling both sides of Estero Boulevard, between the pier and Lani Kai.
The hotel will have 254 rooms and include a Landshark Beach Club with a 5 o'Clock Somewhere Bar & Grill, a beachside LandShark Bar & Grill, a Coconut Telegraph Coffee Shop, and more.
The project faced resistance from many residents for fear the hotel would be just too big and will bring a lot more traffic to the island.
The resort is currently scheduled to open in 2021.
