FORT MYERS, Fla. — We are learning how much it will cost the City of Fort Myers to purchase a new headquarters for the Police Department.

The city plans to buy the former News-Press building on Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard.

It's expected to cost $9.2 million-plus $138 thousand in fees.

Police Chief Derrick Diggs says officers will have more space for a shooting range, training activities and to host community outreach and education services.

On Monday, the city will vote on holding a public hearing on September 30th.

If approved, work on the project could start early next year.
