New look at what's new for Bontia Springs and Fort Myers - Naples Greyhound dog racing

BONITA SPRINGS — We're getting a closer look at what's in store for the the Naples-Fort Myers Greyhound track one dog racing ends there in the coming year.

The Greyhound track in Bonita Springs is closing in may, ending dog racing in Southwest Florida.

They just lost their biggest attraction - so what'll happen next?

Right now... a new building is under construction across from the Race-Trac gas station on bonita beach road.

Isadore Havenick says the new building will have more room for poker tables, simulcasting, and food and beverage option and will likely be 10 times smaller then the current building.

“We have a very very old building, with a lot of space that we won't be needing anymore because of dog racing, we won't be getting the crowds we get,” Isadore Havenick Fort Myers-Naples Race Track VP of Governmental Affairs.

The original building was built by Havenick's grandfather almost 50 years ago.

He added that the current plans could help the economy to grow.
