CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- New police body cam video showing a man reportedly running from police before jumping into a cape coral canal filled with blue-green algae.
Cape Coral Police released the video Tuesday.
Investigators say Abraham Duarte was pulled over for speeding and fled on foot. He then jumped into a canal and tried to swim away, but ended up turning around and swimming back to officers after he was overcome by the toxic algae and swallowed some of the water in the canal.
A neighbor allowed officers to use his garden hose to spray the algae off of Duarte's body.
He was taken to the hospital, then to Lee County Jail.
