No leads yet in Bonita Springs murder investigation

As residents in a Bonita Springs community ready their homes for the holidays, a solemn reminder of what happened here a few months ago stands at the end of the street.

"We were shocked when we heard all the engines and everything that morning, and we just thought it was a fire," said Kathy Giampa.

She remembers the morning deputies found the body of 34-year-old Kathy Nicholson, in her burned out home back on October 29th.

Nicholson's hometown newspaper in Arkansas reported she walked in while someone was burglarizing the home.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office says it cannot confirm that.

"It's a little unsettling, because we don't get any information, so we don't know if it's somebody that she knew, if it's a break in," said Giampa.

Kathy says she would see Nicholson at the house for a week, then she would be gone for several days.

Other neighbors wonder why Nicholson was there in the first place.

"It's a 55 and older deeded community, obviously was her parents place, I don't know how long she was staying there, if she was staying there for good," said resident Tim Cosgrove.

Although people we talked to generally feel this is safe community, Kathy says she's looking over her shoulder now knowing the killer is still out there.

"We're all cautious, especially at night time, you know like I said, there are people who are in here that are elderly people and they are in here by themselves," said Giampa

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
